This is my sister Amanda, who was recently diagnosed with stage two breast cancer. My sister is an RN; she recently started working for a new hospital before her diagnosis, and due to this, she is not able to get FMLA. She has 5 living children, 6 total. Her oldest is Justine, then her first son Randy, followed by Alexandria, Christopher, and Nora.
My sister and I are the only ones left from our immediate family that are still living. Both of our parents died in 2016 and our brother in 2000.
I struggled with addiction partway through my bachelor's degree, and my life fell apart. My sister took me and my 4 children into her home and supported us financially, emotionally, and spiritually. Because of her, I have almost 8 years sober and am now a licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
Amanda is currently on her 3rd round of chemo, trying to work full-time, which has left her falling behind on all her basic bills and mortgage. I want to be able to help my sister as she did for me. I am not asking for a handout but a hand up.
Please find it in your hearts to help my sister not have to worry about losing her home due to being too ill to work. If I could afford to do it on my own without asking, I would.
