***Help Amanda Hare Get Her Life-Saving Kidney Transplant***
My name is Amanda Hare. I’m 38 years old, and I was born with Cystic Fibrosis, a lifelong battle that has shaped every chapter of my life. Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system, and while it has brought countless challenges, it has also taught me resilience, hope, and the power of community.
In 2020, my journey took a dramatic turn when my health declined to the point where I needed, and thankfully received, a double-lung transplant. That incredible gift gave me a second chance at life. I am forever grateful to my donor and their family, as well as to everyone who supported me through that intense and emotional process.
However, my medical team and I always knew that the lung transplant would eventually lead to another hurdle, a kidney transplant. The medications and treatments necessary to keep my lungs healthy have, over time, taken a toll on my kidneys. Over the past two years, my kidney function has steadily worsened, and now the time has come for me to take the next life-saving step.
Why I Need Your Help
While my insurance will cover most of the transplant surgery itself, there are many critical expenses it does not cover. I live in Oklahoma, but my transplant will take place in Texas. This means extensive travel and temporary relocation, logistics that are as daunting as they are costly.
I have set a goal to raise $25,000 to help cover the essential expenses associated with this journey, including:
-Room and board during my stay in Texas before and after the transplant
-Rent and household bills back home while I am away
-Food and daily living expenses for me and my husband
-Gas and transportation costs for the many trips to and from the hospital
-Medical co-pays and prescription costs not covered by insurance
-Hygiene and post-surgery care items that are crucial for recovery
What This Journey Looks Like
After the transplant, I will be required to remain in Texas for at least two months so my medical team can closely monitor my recovery. Even after returning home, I will have to make frequent trips back to Texas for follow-up appointments and ongoing care.
During this time, I will not be able to work. My husband will also need to take time away from his job to care for me, which means our household income will be significantly reduced. The funds raised will provide stability during a time when our focus needs to be on healing, not worrying about how to pay for a place to stay, a tank of gas, or a warm meal.
How You Can Help
Any amount, large or small, truly makes a difference. Your contribution will directly impact my ability to undergo this life-saving transplant and to recover in the safest, most supportive way possible.
Even if you are unable to donate financially, sharing this campaign with your friends, family, and community is an incredible way to help.
From the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you. Thank you for your prayers, your kindness, your generosity, and for believing in me as I take on this next fight. My life has been saved once before through the gift of organ donation, and with your help, I have faith it can be saved again.
