Hi, my name is Brooklyn Barrett and I’m writing this in a hurry - I promise I know English. This is round two, unfortunately and unplanned. We traveled to St. Louis, MO yesterday to find out if this would be the case. I didn’t think I’d have to worry about this again for my mom, Amanda Martin, but here we are. My mom is a respiratory therapist during Covid-19 of all things, but who works everyday while having an extremely rare syndrome that just surfaced a little over a year ago? Her. Growing up my sister, 12, and I now 20 did not have much support. She was a young mom who worked her ass off everyday to provide for us, while receiving zero child support from my father my whole life, and my sister’s not super present. We did good, we are a powerful mixture. My mom has Venous Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (includes serious blood clotting near her heart and lungs), which was found on the right side of her body where raynaud’s developed and causes pretty intense discomfort (issues with grip, numbness, swollen arms, cold and pale hands). Due to this she had to go into a pretty invasive surgery, this surgery terrified us after it was not as successful as expected, I wasn’t sure she was going to make it. She was bleeding out, and mind you she is very small. She had her first rib removed, and now we are going to have two to make into necklaces. The already rare syndrome is now on both sides of her body in the brachial plexus area, and from my studies on this area.. it is simply a mess. Of course this would happen to her, the specialist has never seen this in his many years. He is one of very few doctors who can do the surgery anyway. Please, if you are able anything counts. She was planning on working every single day to get the covid pay her work offers but now she will continue on a worrisome journey of can we afford it? Will she be able to travel? Will she have to work the rest of her life? I’ll be coming back home to take care of her and my sister, because she tries to man it all. Although I felt like my days were over of trying to take care of everyone, I am glad to be who I am to step in place. Now let’s hope I don’t have the same problems, because we do have the same build.. ugh. Anyways please please please share. Thank you, much love.
