9/10/24 UPDATE: As many of you know, we (Jeremiah and I) have been working very hard to manage his cancer and overall health since his diagnosis. For those of you who had done the math previously, Jeremiah believes he will be lucky to hit 50 (he turned 45 this past July) and has tried to live a relatively normal life for as long as possible. We have also prioritized attempts keep our teenage children in the same school and they are scheduled to graduate in May of 2025 but with Jeremiah’s recent relapse, unfortunately, it is not enough and we need help.

Jeremiah has multiple doctors appointment every week and chemo infusions twice a week (est 2-3 hours each day), I work full time both remotely and in person, manage the household shopping, cleaning and lawn care. Sadly, while Jeremiah does as much as he possibly can, his cancer and the resulting surgeries have impacted him. We complete applications for financial aid, prescription assistance and have been only passingly successful. It has been exhausting, depressing and sad to say, it is only going to get worse.

In light of this, and with Jeremiah’s recent relapse, we are no longer able to afford to wait until the lease expires to move. We have reached out multiple times to our leasing company, being completely open and forthcoming in advance about the reality of our situation but the corporation has been unmoved and are unwilling to allow us to break our lease without paying a $4,940.00 penalty fee. Furthermore, Florida does not allow any exceptions due to medical issues and so we are trapped with little recourse. We are planning to move into my grandmother’s home as soon as we can, but the reality is, without help, it will be impossible. Moving alone is expensive; and we do not have the money to continue to pay rent for another 60 days in addition to the penalty fee.

We hate to that we need to resort to charity at all but are asking for whatever help you can give. We do recognize that many of you have donated to us before this and we had hoped to have enough time to get the kids through high school before having to gear up for this fight again, but the cancer had other ideas. So please, even $5 will be more hope than we have right now. Thank you to everyone to has helped us get this far. I cannot come close to expressing the amount of gratitude and appreciation I feel.

07/04/24 UPDATE: As many of you know, Amanda and Jeremiah have been working very hard to manage his cancer or live a normal life for as long as possible. His diagnosis is terminal buthad been hoping that the bone marrow transplant Jeremiah underwent in August of 2022 would help keep his cancer suppressed for a few years. There is no such thing as actual remission but this (extremely painful) procedure came with an average of 3 1/2 to 5 years before maintenance therapy needed to be converted to active therapy again. At that point, Jeremiah would undergo a second round of treatment to suppress his cancer. We were told that each subsequent round of treatment would be a bit less effective each time and that most people undergo 3 to 4 rounds of treatment.

For those who have done the math, it is unfortunately 1 year and 10 months later when Jeremiah began experiencing some pain and underwent an MRI and then a PET scan which confirmed the return of cancerous lesions in multiple locations throughout his body (hip bone, femur, back, skull). They have not given up the fight yet but are trying to be realistic about their chances of making it past 5 years.

That being said, nothing is guaranteed and on July 10, 2024, Jeremiah began his second round of treatment. That involves oral chemotherapy on a 28 day cycle, weekly injections (which take about 3 to 4 hours to dispense) and steroids. This treatment will last through December of 2024 when he will be restaged with another PET scan. If his treatment has been successful, Jeremiah will be a candidate for something called Car-T cell therapy which, in layman’s terms, is the next generation transplant. That means another month or so in the hospital and another couple weeks of daily appointments. Amanda works at least 50 hours a week, trying to meet their monthly bills., and has also been managing as much as she can taking Jeremiah for his treatments, applying for financial assistance programs, looking into supplemental insurances to cover some co-pays and still raising two teenage boys and managing the household shopping, cleaning and lawn care. Obviously their children help as much as they can but they are only teenagers and have their own lives and responsibilities. It has been exhausting for everyone, to say the least and is only going to get worse. They recognize that they need to downsize financially and plan to move in with family when their current lease is up. They have been trying to push as hard as they can to keep their living situation stable until their boys graduate.

We are asking for help for them one more time to try and help them manage through the end of the year.

INITIAL POST: As most of you may know, Amanda and Jeremiah have undergone one upheaval after another this past year. After testing positive for the BRCA-1 breast cancer gene, Amanda had a hysterectomy in July, a double mastectomy in October, and then Jeremiah's cancer diagnosis (multiple myeloma and lymphoma) in November, which resulted in Jeremiah having to undergo two major spinal surgeries at the age of 42. They have been lucky to have insurance, Aflac, and credit cards, which are now maxed out, as well as assistance from family to help out with the living expenses for them and the two boys. Jeremiah just underwent a risky bone marrow transplant this month, and they are both staying in the hospital as Jeremiah recovers, and will be moved to a halfway house soon for another two weeks or more. As you can imagine, their level of debt is insurmountable, and they see no way of recovering from this situation financially on their own. Jeremiah lost his job months ago due to his diagnosis. They are both very proud and hesitate to ask for anything. After a year or more of struggling, they had nowhere else to turn, so I wanted to do this GoFundMe in hopes of being able to help them out a little more. We appreciate any little bit of help, no matter how small. If is easier for you to donate, Amanda’s Venmo is @aderosa86.
