Help Amaliapolis Griekenland

Er is op dit moment geen tekort aan natuurrampen, maar dit is me heel dierbaar. Daarom een beroepje op jullie. Afgelopen week is Griekenland hard getroffen door 'storm Daniel'. Met name de regio waar ik al mijn hele leven kom, is het zwaarst getroffen. Dat doet pijn.

In 1976 kwamen mijn ouders (beide archeoloog) voor het eerst in Amaliapolis terecht om hun opgraving (Halos) te starten. Dat ligt in de buurt van het dorp en daar hebben ze ruim 40 jaar opgegraven en onderzoek gedaan. Ze kozen voor hun verblijf voor het kleine familie hotel Amalia dat net open was en gerund werd door eigenaresse Lena. Ze verbleven hier ieder jaar weer met studenten voor de opgravingscampagne. Als klein meisje fietste ik rondjes in de achtertuin van het hotel en leerde Griekse woorden van eigenaresse Lena. Ik raakte bevriend met dochters Marina en Fani. Later hebben mijn ouders een huis gebouwd iets buiten het dorp en nog ieder jaar zijn we er meermalen te vinden. Nog steeds zijn we bevriend met ze en voelt het als familie. Deze zomer mochten we 2 nachten bij ze schuilen in het hotel vanwege een naderende bosbrand en de 2e dag vanwege een munitiedepot dat vanwege de bosbranden in de fik was gevlogen. De plek waar we ons 6 weken geleden nog veilig voelden, is nu hard getroffen door deze ramp.

Er is zoveel regen gevallen dat het van achter het hotel binnendrong en er aan de voorkant er weer uitkwam. Het dorp kwam zonder stroom te zitten en ik kon geen contact meer met ze krijgen. Eigenaar Nikos werd door de kracht van het water meegesleurd het hotel uit en ze konden net op tijd voorkomen dat hij in zee spoelde. Angstige momenten. Ze stonden erbij te kijken hoe hun bezittingen met het water mee de zee in stroomde. De receptie bestaat niet meer. Wasmachines zijn kapot. Het achterhuis waar ze wonen is verwoest. De schade is enorm. Ook in de rest van het dorp en omgeving is gigantische schade aan huizen, bruggen, waterleidingnetwerken, wegen en landbouwgrond. In de media wordt gesproken van 'bijbelse vernietiging'.

De verzekering zal niet alles dekken (als er al iets vergoed wordt). Er is dus geld nodig. Veel geld. Ik zou het enorm waarderen als jullie me willen helpen om ze weer op weg te helpen. Zodat ze weer een begin kunnen maken. Geef alsjeblieft gul. Dankjewel. Liefs Marianne

In 1976 my parents (both archaeologists) first came to Amaliapolis to start their excavation (Halos), which is in the area of the village and they have been doing research and excavations for over 40 years there. For their stay they chose this small family hotel Amalia, which had just opened and was run by owner Lena. They stayed here every year with students for the excavation campaign. Later my parents built a house just outside the village and we can still be found there several times every year. We are still friends with them and it feels like family. This summer we were allowed to shelter with them in the hotel for 2 nights because of an approaching wild fire and the 2nd day because of an ammunition depot that was blown up due to the wild fires. The place where we thought we were safe 6 weeks ago has now been hit hard by this disaster. An absurd amount of rain fell; it came in from the back of the hotel with an enormous power and got out at the front of the hotel. The village was without power for a long time and I could not contact them. The owner Nikos was dragged out of the hotel by the force of the water and they were able to prevent him from being washed into the sea just in time. Terrifying moments. They stood by and watched as their belongings flowed into the sea with the water. The reception no longer exists. 3 washing machines are broken. The house at the back where they live has been destroyed. The damage is enormous. Also the rest of the village and surroundings suffer from extreme damage to houses, roads, bridges, watersystems and farmland. In the media they speak of a 'biblical devastation'.
