Help Amal’s family escape war in Lebanon
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jody. A few years ago, I had a brilliant exchange student come stay with me for a year of high school through a scholarship program. Amal is from Lebanon. A few days ago, she sent me a text that her home is getting bombed

This fundraiser that I started for her college is one I’m converting to help raise funds for her family to get to safety.
She excelled in physics and math. She’s an amazing young woman with potential to change the world. She’s just finished high school in Lebanon and is applying to college. Here’s what she says:
Hi, my name is Amal. I’m a student from Lebanon, I have just finished high school, and I’m now applying to a college. I’m the second child in my family that consists of nine members. My dad is a painter, and his salary -which is not constant- doesn’t last till the end of the month sometimes, because of the cost of basic needs. Lebanon is facing an economic crisis right now. A foreign exchange black market emerged and the national currency, the Lira, sharply depreciated. In turn, inflation soared and people’s real wages and purchasing power collapsed. My dad’s salary now (in Lira) is equivalent to less than 100 USD. Consequently, my dad is no longer able to afford college expenses for me. My older sister started studying at an official university last year but didn’t continue, because of how difficult it was to catch up with the online classes, she had to attend a total of four classes everyday, two hours each, the power would cut at the middle of a class sometimes, and the professors weren’t very compassionate with the students. So, I don’t want to get through what my sister did. And here’s when I felt the need to ask people for help. And one thing know is that i will not give up and sit home, and i will try my best to get the education I deserve, because I believe my education will be my only weapon in the future. I’m a very ambitious person, and I never want to settle for less, or average and I always follow the saying “Dream big” and I believe, having financial issues shouldn’t stop me from doing that. The money you will donate will be only spent on tuition, dorm, school supplies, and other educational expenses, and for that i need $10,000 this year, of which, I need at least $5,000 by the end of August. I know it’s not a small amount of money, but I truly believe, donating the least amount will help me achieve my dream of being a successful person who will have an impact on the community, and be part of changing the tragic reality we’re living. I really appreciate your time reading my story, and I will be forever grateful for each one who is willing to help and be a part of my educational journey. Thank you.
