Raising Funds for South African Cadet – Amahle Mabaso: Help Amahle Set Sail Toward Her Dream: A Career at Sea

Hello everyone,
My name is Isabela and I’m honoured to be a mentor to an incredibly bright and motivated young woman from South Africa, Amahle Mabaso. Through the Maritime SheEO Mentorship Programme, I’ve been supporting Amahle in pursuing her dream of becoming a Navigation Officer.
Recently, Amahle was accepted into a cadetship programme with one of the leading maritime companies in South Africa — an incredible achievement! However, before she can begin her sea training, she must first complete a number of mandatory pre-sea training courses, which unfortunately are not covered by the sponsor.
That’s why I’ve created this campaign — to help raise the funds Amahle needs to begin her journey. I will manage all transactions on her behalf and I’m happy to provide full transparency: course lists, costs, durations, receipts and certificates upon completion.
We aim to start the training in January 2026, with an estimated duration of 2 months.
I would like to say a big thank you for supporting this campaign.

A Message from Amahle
Hi, my name is Amahle Mabaso, and I’m a 22-year-old Nautical Studies graduate from Newcastle, South Africa. I recently completed my Diploma in Nautical Studies at Durban University of Technology, graduating with 16 distinctions.
Now, I’ve been accepted into a cadetship programme — a critical step toward becoming a professional Navigation Officer.
This programme is a dream come true, but there’s one big challenge: the pre-sea training costs are not sponsored, and I must cover all expenses before I can begin.
What I Need Support For
To qualify, I must complete several internationally required training courses, such as STCW Basic Safety Training (PSSR, PST, FPFF, EFA), GMDSS Radio Certification, Rescue Boat Training, Advanced Fire Fighting, Oil/Chemical Tanker Operations ...and more.
The total estimated cost is R95,000 (approx. £4,000).
I’m determined to raise these funds, complete my training and step aboard as a cadet with the skills, discipline and passion this industry demands.

Why It Matters
This is more than just a job — it’s the beginning of a meaningful career. I want to represent young African women in maritime, support my family, and eventually mentor others who want to follow this path.
I’m especially passionate about sustainable shipping, gender equity at sea, and the future of green marine technology.
With your support, I can bridge the gap between education and opportunity.

How You Can Help
• Donate — any amount helps, even R50 or £5!
• Share this campaign with friends, family or your network
• Offer sponsorship if you’re in the maritime field
Every contribution brings me one step closer to setting sail. Thank you so much for believing in me.
With gratitude,
Amahle Mabaso

Note: All funds will be received by Isabela Tatu (UK-based mentor) and forwarded directly to Amahle Mabaso in South Africa to cover her training, accommodation, and course-related costs.
