On January 24, 2026, our bright, energetic 11-year-old son Amadeo suffered a devastating brainstem and high cervical spinal cord injury after a stroke and then a cardiac event. In an instant, our world changed. He went from playing drums, loving video games, and lighting up every room with his smile to fighting for every breath, every movement, and every small victory from a hospital bed.

But Amadeo is a fighter. In the weeks since his injury, he has already shown us the incredible power of a young brain and an unbreakable spirit. He is voluntarily moving his thumbs and fingers on command. He can swallow chopped food on his own. He yawns deeply, initiates his own breaths but remains completely ventilator dependent, speaks words through his speaking valve, and even jerked his leg in frustration when he was determined to move it. These are not small things — they are proof that his pathways are reconnecting and his fighting spirit is very much alive.

We know the road ahead is long. He remains ventilator-dependent with a trach, deals with spasticity and neuropathic pain, and faces intensive therapy every single day. We are hopeful for a phrenic nerve pacer, continued motor recovery, and one day bringing him home. But none of this is possible without significant support. The costs of specialized equipment, ongoing therapies, home modifications, transportation, and care are overwhelming. Every donation — no matter the size — will directly help us give Amadeo the best chance to regain independence, strength, and joy.
