Hi all, my name is Makenzie, and I’m making this fundraiser in hopes of helping my dear friend Alyssa out during this difficult, stressful time.

Her sweet cat, Penelope, is almost 15 years old and is truly the world’s best girl. Last week, a lump appeared on her cheek. Following a hasty trip to the veterinarian, a biopsy revealed the diagnosis of our greatest concern: melanoma.

Right now, the next steps are complicated and costly. Surgery and a CT scan are estimated to cost between $7,000 and $8,000, which feels like an impossible goal. Just the biopsy and X-ray alone were $900, and the upcoming oncology consult will likely be another $300. On top of that, medications like gabapentin and other treatments to keep Penelope comfortable are adding up quickly.

We won’t know her full prognosis until Alyssa meets with the oncologist, and even then it’s uncertain whether surgery would extend her time. What we do know is that every dollar raised will go directly toward her medical bills, tests, medications, and anything she needs to stay as comfortable as possible during this fight.

Penelope isn’t just a pet—she’s family. She’s been by Alyssa’s side through so much—including moving across the country, bringing love, comfort, and companionship every single day. Alyssa loves Penelope more than anything and is doing everything possible to give her the best care.
