Hello Everyone,
My cousin Alyssa and her about to be two year old daughter Aleia have been homeless for over a year , and been in the shelter since November of 2021 . Her baby daddy was the reason she got evicted from her last apartment because she was the only one paying the bills. She is not getting help she needs in New York City. As for her case worker , she has only met with her once . Her case worker isn’t really helping her qualify for an apartment because they need to “validate she was homeless”.
I’ve been seeing her as a single mother struggle daily , and get no help from anyone! From hospital nights @3am to restless nights , I’ve seen this women hold it down for real all by herself. She’s been doing her thing making sure the both of them eat daily with no kitchen! She wants to provide her daughter with a safe and stable apartment but cannot afford the three months rent required as a downpayment to those with little credit history and no savings. I have agreed to help her with her application and am now asking for our community's help to collect the deposit. She will be starting from scratch - no furniture and very few basic supplies. Anything helps! She’s been looking for work for months it’s been hard but she’s starting school April 23rd. In this crazy world we live in now , things are only getting harder and more dangerous. New York system is okay with them staying in the shelter let’s help her get out!! I hope after reading her story you guys can help Alyssa and Aleia find safe & stable housing !
Shelter conditions :
*they do not provide food & there is no kitchen.
*they do not provide basic hygiene necessities.
*Black mold in the bathroom causing the ceiling to cave in .
*not allowed visitors interfering with her ability to find a baby sitter ( She needs somewhere the babysitter to watch Aleia )
*Roach infested as well as mice & rats .
*unsafe neighborhood for a mother and her child .
