On November 21, 2025, Illinois State Police Troop 7 responded to U.S. Route 45 near N Oak Street in Ludlow for the report of a two-vehicle, personal injury traffic crash. One person was killed in the crash.
17-year-old Alyson Shadix was a passenger in one of the vehicles and she was seriously injured.
That night, at the hospital, Alyson suffered a stroke due to a blood clot traveling to her brain. Her two front carotid arteries have tears, which is causing restricted blood flow. Also, her two main arteries in the back of her neck are damaged due to whiplash. She has a broken jaw, missing teeth, lots of facial cuts, a broken leg in two places, and a broken hip.
On November 22, Alyson was airlifted to Northwestern Hospital in Chicago as Carle Hospital does not have staff specialists in pediatric strokes.
Alyson is a senior honor roll student at Rantoul Township High School where she was scheduled to graduate this December.
Given her transfer to Northwestern Hospital, her large family will incur additional costs associated with travel and hotels (the first night hotel was $500 due to a Bears game in town!).
Many friends and family have asked how they can help, and this seemed to be the easiest way to be able to collect funds for the family.
