My dog Miso had emergency spinal surgery in June 2024. She was suddenly paralyzed and had a herniated disc removed from her spine, which was compressed by 75 percent. It saved her life—and cost me $12,000. I emptied my savings to save her life and submitted it to my pet insurance, Pets Best, which we had been insured by since January 2021. I was covered for 90 percent and already met my deductible. Months went by and they finally said the claim was settled and approved for $10,626.06 with an official explanation of benefits. I waited days, weeks, and eventually months. I called and emailed, tried to speak to supervisors for more information, and I had no answers and no money. I continued to try to get information on this alleged deposit or to receive a check instead. They told me it was "probably accidentally deposited into another Chase account." Chase told me no deposit existed. I asked for the account number and routing number for verification and they could only share a receipt with the account number XXXXed out. I asked to see it in full to verify with my bank and they said it was a third party processor. I asked to speak to that company and they refused. When I threatened legal action they just told me to send a letter from my lawyer. My Pets Best contract states I must pay for their arbitration and use their legal team. Small claims court and multiple lawyers advised me I would pay more than I would win.

For the past year and a half without steady work, finances have been tough. I depleted my savings to save Miso's life and have been selling my East Fork Pottery collection and vintage items to try to recoup funds. But I need help and if you are able to help, we would appreciate it. Funds will be used for me and Miso (and her sister Ritz) and the potential of pursuing legal action against Pets Best if they do not issue my covered benefits payment ASAP.
