In January 2020, Alycia was taken to the ER with severe vomiting, blurred vision, weakness & dizziness. She was released, still vomiting, with a diagnosis of vertigo.
On May 17, 2020, Alycia was at the beach with her cousin. After setting up her umbrella and sitting down she started hearing a ringing sound and could not hold anything in her hands. Her vision clouded and she began vomiting and then her head began to ache. When she was able to stand, her cousin finally was able to get her to the car and took her home. Alycia did not go to the hospital because she thought it was the vertigo again and could not afford another medical bill. After resting it was apparent something else was wrong. She had weakness in her hands, she was limping and had slightly slurred speech. After consulting a doctor via a telemedicine site, Alycia was advised that she had probably had a stroke and should go directly to the ER. This time she was admitted & scans were performed. It was confirmed that Alycia had in fact suffered a stroke. They diagnosed her with a cardiac myxoma, a rare tumor in one of the chambers of her heart. Alycia was transferred to another hospital where she underwent open heart surgery. According to the doctor, she is very lucky and that if she had another stroke she would not have survived. She is recovering nicely but will be facing some therapy.
Unfortunately, the hospital treatments, tests & surgery are very expensive. Alycia has insurance but she will have to pay at least 25% out of pocket.
Alycia has always worked hard, but this situation is overwhelming. It was difficult for her to agree to this GoFundMe, but there is little choice here.
Alycia and her entire family are grateful for whatever help you can give, and would appreciate you sharing her story. Thank you!!
