Our beloved home, located in Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth, Jamaica, unfortunately was severely damaged at the hands of Hurricane Beryl.
My grandfather, Alvin James, purchased the property in 1921 and erected a small two-bedroom house which subsequently got larger and larger as more kids came a climbing. In those days it was customary to have a large family and as each boy turned 17 years of age, he had to pack his things and leave. The old house was torn down and made way for what you see here which was established in 1972. After the death of my Grandfather in 1991, my father (Alvin James Jr) bought the house from his existing brothers and sisters. We commemorated 100 years of existence on this property 3 years ago in 2021.
The Heirloom has now been passed to me. (Alvin James 3rd). I have opened this GoFundMe account to assist me with installing a new roof, preferably a concrete one, as this is the 2nd time that a hurricane has damaged the house and left us looking at the moon and stars above. Back in 2004, Hurricane Ivan peeled the roof back causing significant water damage to the 2nd floor bedrooms. We have a 1965 piano that was filled with water and rendered useless yet we still have it as a memento.
Now, 2 decades later, Beryl has eradicated the entire roof, causing extensive damage to the closets and fixtures and leaving the house susceptible to rain and even further damage. The property the house sits on is a family Heirloom and will stay in the family for many generations to come.
Please help in donating so that I can affix a permanent concrete roof and not worry about future hurricanes. Your generosity will always be remembered.
