My name is Alvia, and I’ve lived in Champaign, Illinois for twelve years. I’ve always worked hard to support myself, but since June of last year, I’ve been unable to work due to a series of surgeries—spine surgery, two foot surgeries, and now I’m facing another spine operation. The pain makes it impossible for me to stand for long, and it feels like someone is stepping on my spine every time I try.

Being out of work for so long has made it extremely difficult to keep up with my mortgage, utilities, groceries, and car repairs. I also need help covering insurance for my car and my home. My friends and family have been supportive, but they’re struggling with their own bills and can’t help all the time. I’ve reached a point where I need to ask for help from my community to get through this tough period.

Getting support would mean everything to me. My goal is to recover from these surgeries and return to work, regain my independence, and take care of myself again.
