We decided to take on Alto at about 6 weeks old after discovering that he was born with deformities that prevented him from walking, thus he couldn't get to his mother to feed. We never expected him to make it, and we never expected him to walk in any capacity. But with lots of physical therapy, Alto has proven that he can walk with his hind legs and partially his front legs. His elbows are permanently dislocated and his back is at a slope when he walks. Over time, this is going to cause neck and back problems/pain, so we are looking into options to help accommodate and prevent the pain.

-One option is a wheelchair for his front end. This is the more affordable option but it limits his mobility for where he can go.

-Second option is prosthetics that would attach to him as is, so there is no need for amputation.

-The third option is a potential surgery to correct the elbow dislocation so he can walk like a normal pup.

The cost to get scans and imaging done is about $1,600. Until this is done, we are unable to look at all options as we need to know exactly what we are working with.

People have asked how they can help Alto when they see him walking. We took Alto on knowing that if he made it, it would be expensive. It was suggested that we make a made a GoFundMe. He 100% is as happy as can be, but we would love to see him mobile with no pain like other dogs.

As of May 2025, he is 7 months old, 7.24lbs, Mini Schnauzer, Mini Aussie, Dachshund, & Jack Russell Terrier. He's a sweetheart, loves car rides and loves hopping around. If you see us, please feel free to say hi to Alto! We are still socializing him
