Hello, my name is Maria Martin and I truly appreciate you taking the time to read my story. My daughter, Althea Clark, who turned 40 in July, has been battling endometrial cancer since April of 2023. She had a full hysterectomy and chemotherapy in hopes the cancer was gone. Additionally, she has been on a Keytruda regimen for about a year now to boost her immune system and keep her cancer free. Unfortunately, this medication does not penetrate the blood-brain barrier and this past May she developed a brain tumor that caused seizures to occur in her left arm and hand.
Althea had radiation at the end of May as treatment for the tumor. Her scan in August showed a reduction in the size of the tumor, however, it began to grow again in September, causing such severe seizures she lost mobility of her left arm and hand and was not able to walk without support. She had surgery in October to remove the tumor which was successful and she is undergoing both physical and occupational therapies to restore the use of her left arm and hand so that she can return to work and living life.
Due to surgeries, time out of work, medical and other bills, Althea needs help financially so she can focus on healing and recovery. In addition to Althea fighting her battle, my husband, Anthony, had emergency hernia surgery and was in the hospital and rehab for 2 months as well as undergoing treatment for other medical conditions.
We are looking to raise $35,000. Any money donated will be used to help us pay rent, buy food, cover out-of-pocket medical costs and other living expenses. Whatever you can afford to contribute will be greatly appreciated and if you aren’t able to contribute money at this time, a share with your friends and family would mean the world to us as well.
