A raging war is happening in Sudan since April 2023. Just a few months before, we were doing archaeological fieldwork in Sudan in close collaboration with our Sudanese colleagues. One of the team member is Altayeb Abdalla, who was at the time enrolled as a MA student at El-Neelain University and on the path to complete his MA studies. Unfortunately, with the war breaking out a few months later, Altayeb was not able to finish his studies. As it is not possible at the moment to continue his education in Sudan, Altayeb applied for an International Master in Quaternary and Prehistory (Erasmus Mundus Master between universities in Italy, France, Spain and Portugal, https://quaternaryprehistory.eu/admissions). Altayeb was overjoyed to find out he was among the highest ranked students to be selected to enroll in this program, but unfortunately, this year, no scholarship was available within this program. The Master starts in October 2023, and it becomes urgent for Altayeb to gather the funds necessary for his enrolment in the program. Please find below Altayeb’s message regarding his situation. A minimum of 6500 euros are needed to cover the costs of his tuition fees and moving costs. Edit 5 Dec. 2023: we have raised our goal to 8500 euros to cover unplanned expenses incurred during the time Altayeb was waiting for his visa to be processed.

We decided to collect the funds on his behalf as Sudan is not part of the countries covered by GoFundMe, but we will of course transfer the funds to Altayeb.

My name is Altayeb Abdalla I am from Republic of Sudan I graduated at Al-Neelain University (BA honor degree in Archaeology) and I was very excited to complete my studies in the field of archaeology. I joined the same university for a master’s degree program in January 2022 and got the Young Researchers Award from the American Sudanese Archaeological Research center (AmSARC), then as soon as I was about to discussing my thesis, unfortunately, a war broke out in my country and prevented me from completing my education. But I did not give up.

I paused for a while and then continued. Yes, the situation in my country has become catastrophic, including education but I applied to participate in the international master's program, and I was selected, but unfortunately there was no full funding this time, as a consequence I am looking for your support, so that I can complete my research project.

My message to the world

My Prayers and thoughts for the families who died and those who are struggling because of this war. Africa is tired of these wars, our generation is tired of wars, it is time to build our countries in PEACE for a healthy development and places were youths can grow up in Peace.
