Help Altadena Seniors Reclaim Their Community.

Seniors of the community of Altadena have lost their second home, the Altadena Senior Center. This center was a place where many seniors could meet and interact with one another, making their golden years bright. Due to the Eaton Fire, the center was destroyed.

For nearly ten years, I, Liliana Garcia, was the director of the Altadena Senior Center, so I know how crucial this facility was to the hundreds of seniors who participated in its classes, activities, and events. Due to the destruction of this building, holiday parties, exercise classes, educational seminars, and excursions are no longer a part of their lives. To compound this loss, many seniors who frequented the center have also lost their homes and all their possessions therein.

Rebuilding the Altadena Senior Center will take many months if not years. The seniors of Altadena are an integral part of what Altadena is and they need assistance now.

The Friends of the Altadena Senior Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, established when the center opened over 40 years ago, supplemented funding to enhance the programming provided by the County of Los Angeles. Without their support, many activities and events would not have been possible.

I watched it burn live on TV and was devastated! I am frustrated and feel helpless but hopeful, so I ask that you please donate. All donations will go directly to the Friends of the Altadena Senior Center, so they can continue the implementation of programs and services at a temporary location to be determined through the guidance of Los Angeles County and also provide monetary assistance to the seniors who have tragically lost their homes.
