Help Alset's Family Survive War
Donation protected
My name is Ayaki (Instagram) and I am setting up this campaign on behalf of Alset (Instagram), who I came into contact with about a month ago. Alset is a mother of 5 children, in Gaza, who is just trying to survive the war and raise money to get food and water for her family. Despite having days where she does not eat, she has been trying to post consistently on social media. Unfortunately, she has been really struggling to get the visibility that she needs.
Her husband has a slipped disc in his back and cannot work. She is doing this all on her own, in a language she does not speak. Please take a few moments to read this and get to know her and her family. Thank you.
Alset's Story
Before the war, Alset's husband was a fisherman. Alset describes how they lived happily and comfortably. She has five children:
- Her eldest daughter Tala (15) - pictured in the campaign title image
- Her daughter Noorhan (13)
- Her daughter Malak (8)
- Her son Hamza (11)
- Her son Mohammed (5)

Right now, their lives revolve around getting food, water, and clothes to wear. Her daughters Noorhan (13) and Malak (8) sell biscuits to help Alset get money to feed their siblings.
For the past two years, Alset hasn't been able to buy them clothes or healthy food because of the high prices due to war conditions and the blockade on aid. Her children collect firewood so that she can prepare them something to eat and drink whenever there is anything available. She tells me that there is no childhood in Gaza.
During the war, Alset's 20-year old nephew was martyred. She tells me that she had raised him as one of her own children. She does not want to lose any more of her babies.
Prices are exorbitant right now and there are days when Alset drinks only tea so that she can save any food that she has for her children. Posting on social media, especially from Gaza, is like shouting into a void—you don't know if anyone will stop to help you, if anyone cares, or if your stories just get lost in a sea of other voices like your own. Alset and her family deserve to be heard and cared for like any other family who is trying desperately to survive these horrific conditions.
If you can spare $5 for their campaign, you would be surprised to know how much of a snowball effect that has and helps them receive more support. Please do not ever feel like you don't have power. Right now, we are the only way for Alset and her family to get help.
I will be transferring the funds to Alset via bank transfer.
Thank you for your efforts and solidarity.
Breakdown of Costs
I have set the campaign goal as $7,000 for now to ensure that Alset and her family have sufficient funds to cover their living costs for at least 3 months. I will adjust the goal according to any changes in their needs or situation.
Some examples of their monthly costs include (total = $1,995.99):
- 6,000 shekels ($1,627.61) for food
- 160 shekels ($43.40) for drinking water
- 798 shekels ($216.47) for cleaning water
- 300 shekels ($81.38) for wood to use for cooking (as no fuel is available in the markets now)
- 100 shekels ($27.13) for internet
Please note that GoFundMe charges 2.99% + $0.3 per donation (e.g. $1.80 fee for a $50 donation). There are also costs involved with international bank transfers (from the US to Gaza), so I have included some buffer to account for these fees.
