Hi, my name is Alonso Restrepo, and I’m a cellist from Cartagena, Colombia. I’m reaching out with deep gratitude and hope as I pursue the next step in my musical journey: securing an artist visa to continue sharing my music and teaching in the United States.
Playing the cello has been one of the greatest joys of my life. Over the years, music has given me purpose, discipline, and the opportunity to connect with others in powerful ways. That connection grew even deeper when I began performing for people who had never had the chance to hear the cello before. Seeing their eyes light up reminded me that music is not only art—it’s a bridge.
Through those experiences, I discovered another passion: teaching. I fell in love with sharing music in classrooms and communities, knowing how powerful it is as a tool for positive change. Music unites people from all backgrounds, and I’ve seen it bring hope, confidence, and joy to young people, especially those in underserved areas.
I now have the privilege of helping students learn to play classical music—music that is not often associated with people from diverse backgrounds, and in a place not usually linked with classical instruments. At Bronx Global Leaders Institute for Girls Charter School in the South Bronx, we are using music as a tool to expand what students believe is possible for their futures.
But to continue this work, I must secure an artist visa—an expensive and complex process that includes legal and application fees I cannot afford on my own.
That’s why I’m asking for your help.
Your donation will go directly toward:
Artist visa application fees
Attorney and legal expenses
Documentation and filing costs
This visa would give me the chance to keep performing, teaching, and building community through music. Every contribution—no matter the size—brings me one step closer to continuing this journey with the students and families I’ve come to care deeply about.
If you can’t donate, please consider sharing this with others who might be able to support or amplify my story.
Thank you for believing in the power of music and for standing with me as I work to keep making a difference.
With gratitude,
Alonso Restrepo
