I am Alma, a trans woman immigrant living in Germany, and I need your help.

The journey of my medical transition started a few years ago, and while I am happy about some of the results that hormone therapy has yielded, there are other aspects about my body that are still very hard for me to live with. Unfortunately, my health insurance refuses to cover costs of some gender-affirming surgeries that I would like to have, so I can finally be at home in my own body.

One of these surgeries is the reconstruction and augmentation of the breast: In summer 2024, I discovered that I have lumps growing in my left breast. Luckily, there has been no evidence of cancerous cells found so far. However, the lumps are growing, they hurt, and I need to have them removed. Sadly, removing them without damaging the little breast growth I have from hormone therapy seems very unlikely.

For almost a year, I fought with my health insurance company, trying to convince them that I needed to have breast reconstruction and augmentation alongside the removal of lumps. I provided supporting evidence from a surgeon, an endocrinologist, a psychiatrist, and a psychotherapist. During this time, the lumps in my breast grew further and have reached a disturbing size. After months of delayed responses, the health insurance ultimately refused to cover any costs of gender-affirming breast reconstruction and augmentation.

That's why I've decided to take matters, and my happiness, into my own hands and try to finance the surgery myself.

However, I cannot do this alone and I need your help. And in a world that makes it increasingly difficult to be a trans woman, I am in greater need of this help than ever before.
