Help Allison Powell Fight Pseudotumor Cerebri
Donation protected
Allison Powell is like any 15 year old girl-wanting to be with her friends, listen to music, read a book or cook with her family. All of these things are on hold as she spends her time at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, AL. She fights for answers and an end to her pain. Alli has been dealing with extreme headaches and vision problems. The pain has been debilitating and answers have been hard to find. Allison has recently been diagnosed with Pseudotumor Cerebri, or Idiopathic Intercranial Hypertension.
What does that mean?
-symptoms mimic a brain tumor, but no tumor is present
-headaches that require hospitalization
-ringing in her ears
-episodes of blindness and loss of some peripheral vision
-Lumbar Punctures to relieve pressure in her brain
-hospital stays away from her home
-upcoming surgeries to place stent to relieve pressure
The Powell family is a vital part of the military and all the communities where t hey have served. Wes has served selflessly for over 27 years and the entire family becomes an irreplaceable part of the community where they are stationed. He, along with his wife Olla and daughters Megan and Allison, need the support of the wonderful communities they have had the pleasure of being part of. We now have the chance to give back to this wonderful family. The quest for answers has led the Powell family to Children’s Hospital Birmingham and they now must split their time between Mobile and Birmingham. To ensure Allison has the best medical care and support, Olla will need to step down from her position as a dental hygienist at Howes Family Dentistry. This will mean a loss of income as she takes emergency leave without pay. There is no way to know when, or if, Olla will return to work. Allison's disease will cause a lifetime of pain and may not ever improve. As Olla steps back to care for her daughter at home and in Birmingham, we can help ease the burden for this wonderful family. Megan must remain at home because of hospital policies due to Covid-19, adding another need and level of worry. Wes and Olla have to split their time between the two cities and watching their daughter struggle can be unbearable at times.
We can help! The family is thankful for good insurance and the support their community has provided. However, the loss of an income and mounting expenses will leave the family with more stress than they need. We have an opportunity to help lessen the financial burden of this stressful time. The family is grateful for all the love and prayers being showered on them and their daughter. If you are able, please consider a monetary donation to the help the Allison and the Powell Family. If you can not give, consider sharing the effort and adding Allison to your prayers. The Powell family is rooted in love, faith, and service and we have a chance to reflect these qualities back to them. Thank you!
