Hi, my name is Bethany Ellis, and I am fundraising for one of my best friends, Allison Laxton Spampinato. Allison has worked for Neighborhood Health Plan for over two years as a Registered Nurse in the Primary Care (Health at Home) department. Allison has three children, ages 11, 12 and 17. She loves taking care of her children and patients, but now she is the one that needs to be cared for. As a nurse, she is not used to being cared for herself!

On April 25, 2022, Allison was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Triple Negative Breast Cancer is invasive breast cancer that tends to grow and spread faster than other types of breast cancer. It is more aggressive, harder to treat, and more likely to come back than other types of breast cancer. Only 10-15% of breast cancers are triple negative.

Due to Allison’s aggressive and lengthy treatment, she is not allowed to work for an extended amount of time. Her treatment plan includes six months of intravenous chemotherapy, one year of intravenous immunotherapy, surgery and radiation. She had a Port-A-Cath placed on May 13 and had her first chemotherapy treatment on May 17. She continues with weekly chemotherapy treatments and appointments with her Oncology team.

My goal is to make sure Allison can focus on treatment without the stress of finances. Allison had purchased a beautiful new home only months prior to being diagnosed. Had she known what the future would bring her, I am sure she would have waited due to the financial burden. I hope we can rally around Allison and help her through this extremely difficult time.
