For her entire life, Allison Elkow Lazicky has been the person who cared for everyone else.

She devoted her entire multi-decade professional career to geriatrics, giving her time, compassion, and heart to the senior citizens she adored and served. They were never simply patients to Allison. They became an extension of her family. She treated each person with the dignity, patience, and kindness they deserved—and she found so much joy and purpose in caring for them.

Allison helped patients and their families navigate some of the most difficult times of their lives.

Now, it is our turn to be there for Allison.

Four years ago, at just 58 years old, Allison’s life changed forever when she was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, a devastating diagnosis for such a young, vibrant woman.

From the beginning, the disease affected her ability to communicate, leaving her with significant speech and language difficulties, yet Allison made her wishes very clear. She wanted to stay in her home—the place she has always called her “happy place.” It is where she has always felt safe, comfortable, and surrounded by the people she loves.

Today, Allison lives at home with her husband, Rich. Her sons, Taylor and Trevor, and her daughters-in-law, Caroline and Julianna, are devoted to helping care for her and keeping her surrounded by family.

But Alzheimer’s has continued to take pieces of Allison away from the family she knows and loves. She now requires around-the-clock care. She can no longer walk and is confined to bed and a wheelchair. She needs assistance with virtually every aspect of daily life and cannot safely be left alone.

Her family has done everything they can to provide that care themselves. But the reality is that someone must always be with Allison. As her needs have increased, the family has had to bring in professional caregivers, paying for that care entirely out of pocket. It is nearing the point where professional care will be necessary for all her waking hours, creating an increasing financial burden for the family.
