Hi, I'm Allison Dobson. I'm 23 years old and I like playing video games, playing with my dogs, and writing! Unfortunately, I was born with Li-Fraumeni Syndrome, so I'm more likely to develop and re-develop cancers. This has resulted in me developing multiple cancers, including a sarcoma at 2 years old, a brain tumor at 18 years old that gave me a stroke and epilepsy, and a blood cancer called Myelodysplastic Syndrome, or MDS, at 22. I underwent the full, brutal treatment course of chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant for that blood cancer, but unfortunately, due to that Li-Fraumeni Syndrome, it has relapsed in full. This means I will have to go through the whole treatment process again, this time with a clinical trial added on.

I live at home with my dad and two dogs, Mordy and Finn. While my dad has worked hard his whole life, he is my primary caretaker, driving me the long distance from our house in Camarillo to City of Hope hospital in Duarte where I get my treatment. Before the initial symptoms and diagnosis of my current cancer, my dad retired from his landscaping business to take care of his own myriad health problems. After it looked like we were over the hump, before my relapse, he began driving Uber and Lyft to help get back some of the money we lost from dealing with that first course of treatment. Now, though, he won't be able to keep up with his work as much while making sure I get the care I need, and he wasn't able to work Uber and Lyft very long to help us rebound.
