Help Allie Conquer Cancer!

I've occasionally asked myself,

"What would I do if I was diagnosed with a sudden illness?"

My answers over the years have been:

  • Create fun and silly videos
  • Tell everyone how much I love them
  • Make tons of art
  • Help children
  • Spend time with loved ones

In February 2021, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I've tried to stay true to my plans but it's hard after being zapped of energy. Play the video or read below to learn more about my wild journey!

I'm Allie Olson! Happy the dog and I live in Brooklyn, New York. My apartment is a colorful burst of art and imaginative delight. Before cancer, I produced a Kids Youtube show called ALLIEVILLE,  exploring art and self expression. I loved making this show and felt so excited to be connecting with kids. In June of 2020, I noticed a painful lump in my breast and went to see a specialist. The pain became overwhelming but the tests continued to come back as bizarre. After nine months and over 50 visits to the hospital, a biopsy finally came back with an answer. I have a rare breast cancer called Invasive Carcinoma with Medullary Features. This is a triple negative breast cancer which tends to be more aggressive than other breast cancers. It also has less treatment options. The Good news is, we ARE treating it and so far, chemo seems to be helping. Yay! My tumor was very big and needs to shrink before I have surgery. I'm undergoing weekly chemo treatments to make that happen. Once my chemo is over and I have scans, the doctors will offer the options for surgery and what will be the most beneficial. The chemo nurses are amazing and I feel grateful to be on the road to healing. Having the encouragement and support of my friends and family has kept my spirits high. Thank you!

I'm my own caretaker, which means everything that has to get done, I do. I go to each appointment on my own, clean my apartment, run errands and keep my business going. I have to go to the hospital twice a week. Chemo has taken my energy away. Continuous fatigue has replaced my once energetic, active lifestyle. Everyday, I must choose what to spend my limited amount of energy on.  Unemployment was helping me survive, but that is ending and I am in no position to work in a restaurant or teach children. I have an Etsy store which gives me some extra income, but even that is hard because some days I can barely make it to the kitchen, much less the post office. The doctors and nurses keep telling me to rest more and that I am doing too much. My immune system is compromised and I have to be very careful not to get an infection because my body doesn't have the white blood cells to fight it. I am now doing my best to do less. I have used all of my savings and my medical and life expenses will be overwhelming with no income. I tried to avoid the GoFundMe route but now I am exhausted and must ask for help. Your donations will be used to pay my rent during treatment, stay on top of my bills, make sure I have food, and help pay medical expenses. My cancer treatment will be going on at least through the end of the year. With your help, I can focus on recovery without the added anxiety of financial stress. I promise to do everything I can to recover and get back to illuminating joy! Thank you for helping in any way...sharing the link, following me on Instagram, giving money, sending kind words. ALL of it helps and I am super duper incredibly grateful!

Love and more Love,

Allie
