Help Allie Get the Gift of a Second Chance

I’m asking you to join me in supporting my dear friends, Johnna and Dave, and their daughter, Allie, as they face the biggest challenge of their lives.

Seven years ago, their lives changed forever.

After years of battling complex medical conditions, countless hospitalizations, surgeries, and treatments, Allie has now reached the point where her best hope for a better quality of life is an intestinal (small bowel) transplant.

This is one of the rarest and most complex transplants performed in the United States. Only about 50 intestinal transplants are performed nationwide each year, making this an incredibly specialized procedure available at only a handful of transplant centers.

Allie has completed her transplant evaluation and has been approved. Now they wait for the life-changing call that a donor organ is available. When that call comes, Allie will need to relocate to the Washington, D.C., area for approximately 6 months so Allie can undergo surgery, recover, and receive the intensive follow-up care that is essential to her survival.

While their focus is on giving Allie the best possible chance, their family will also be facing a tremendous financial burden. Johnna will need to step away from work to be by Allie’s side, and her paid leave won’t cover the entire time they’ll be away. At the same time, Johnna and Dave will be balancing the costs of temporary housing, travel, parking, meals, and transplant-related expenses that insurance doesn’t cover.
