Help Allie Fight a Rare Childhood Cancer Called Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML)
My name is Glenn Davis, and for nearly four years my youngest granddaughter, Allison, has bravely battled a very rare form of childhood leukemia. In May 2021, Allie was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), a devastating blood cancer virtually unheard of in children. CML is so rare in children that it accounts for only about 2% of all pediatric leukemia cases, with an annual incidence of approximately 1 in a million for children under 15.
Despite everything she’s been through, Allie remains a kind and compassionate child who brings so much joy to our family. She loves playing outside with her dog, Bandit, getting lost in her favorite books, and spending Sunday afternoons with her aunt, uncle, and cousins after church. Her laughter and energy remind us every day why we’re fighting so hard to give her the future she deserves.
And while advances in treatment have given many patients the ability to manage this condition long term, CML remains incurable for most and requires lifelong care. Allie has now reached a critical crossroads in her journey, and she urgently needs your help to continue her fight.
A Critical Turning Point in Allie’s Fight:
Allie’s journey has reached a critical moment. After years of managing her condition with medication, her doctors have determined she now requires a life-saving bone marrow transplant at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston. And while Allie’s older sister is a perfect donor match - an incredible blessing! - the financial and emotional challenges of making this procedure possible are more than our family can bear alone. This transplant offers Allie her best chance at survival, and we’re determined to do everything we can to give her that chance.
The Reality We Face:
As a family, we’re coming together to do everything possible to support Allie and her sister during this incredibly difficult time. As her grandparents, my wife and I are dedicated to providing the girls with the love, stability, and care they need. Allie’s father, a single parent, is facing the immense challenge of being unable to work for an uncertain period of time - doctors say it’ll most likely three to six months - to be by Allie’s side in Charleston while also ensuring her older sister has the stability and support she needs to complete her senior year of high school.
How Your Support Will Help:
Your generosity will directly help Allie’s family cover:
• Living Expenses: Lodging, meals, and transportation for the months Allie will need to receive treatment in Charleston.
• Medical Costs: Assistance with medical expenses not covered by insurance.
• Basic Needs: Ensuring there’s food on the table, bills are paid, and a reliable vehicle is available for travel to and from the hospital.
The Emotional Toll:
The psychological toll of this journey weighs heavily on all of us, but no one more than Allie herself. Since the fourth grade, Allie’s been painfully aware of the financial burden her illness places on her family. That stress impacts her spirit and her health. Your support can help ease these worries, giving Allie the chance to focus on her recovery and return to the things she loves - drawing, reading, and playing outside.
Our Desperate Plea:
We are prayerful, pleading, and turning to our friends, neighbors, and community for help. We need your kindness and generosity to ensure Allie gets the care she needs. Every donation, no matter how small, will bring Allie closer to a long and healthy life.
How You Can Help:
Please share Allie’s story with your friends on Facebook, with your church, with your friends, and with your neighbors. Someone may be able to give $5 or $1, and those dollars will add up - we absolutely believe that! If you can’t help with your wallet, you can help with your heart by sharing Allie’s story. You never know who will see her story and be able to contribute.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your compassion and generosity. Your kindness means the world to our family and may help save Allie’s life.
