My father, Allen Alvarado, has always been the one people call for help. Growing up as his daughter, I saw him constantly perform acts of kindness—helping neighbors, friends, and even strangers without ever expecting anything in return.
Today, my dad faces a challenge he cannot overcome alone. In his retired years, he’s been diagnosed with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, a condition that now keeps him housebound. Without surgery, his health and quality of life will continue to decline. Sadly, the public health system in Costa Rica has a five-year waitlist for this procedure—a delay he cannot afford.
By a stroke of luck, a compassionate doctor has offered to perform the surgery at a significantly reduced rate, donating his surgical skills. However, there are still costs for the procedure, necessary tests, and additional treatments that our family cannot cover on our own.
Those who know Allen know this isn’t who he is: my lively, hardworking, funny, and outgoing father has been left housebound, his spirits low. He only leaves the house for a catheter change (his third so far), has lost 3 kilos in a month, struggles with his appetite due to constant discomfort, and must be accompanied by his wife for basic needs—a strain on them both.
That’s why we’re reaching out. I created this page for the man who gave me life, education, and a future. Every small act of kindness, every donation, will help restore his hope and bring him back to the vital, joyful man he’s always been.
Your support will go directly toward covering his medical treatment and surgery. We aren’t asking for more, just enough to give Allen his life back.
If you cannot contribute financially, please consider sharing this page with your friends and family. Spreading the word is also a big help.
Thank you for your kindness. With your help, my dad can return to good health and the life he loves.
