Help All City's A Stage Apply For Film Festivals

Hi! My name is Grant Hao-Wei Lin. I am a first time Taiwanese director/filmmaker currently studying Photography at Parsons School of Design. If you follow me on social media, you know that I recently made a short film with dancer choreographer Chieh Hsiung and received an overwhelming support and love from those of you who were able to watch it across just the span of 4 days. Due to various reasons, the video is now temporarily archived. One of the reasons is because Chieh and I want to start submitting to film festivals across the world to hopefully get more support and viewership from all over the world and most of the festivals require the film to have not been publically exhibited. Film festivals application fees do add up, and this is why we are doing this fundraising.

 

Regardless of the outcome of this fundraising, I would still do my best to achieve my vision to create more episodes with different performing artists from different cultural backgrounds. However, if you were able to watch it, appreciate the film and want to see more episodes , please consider donating as the most direct way to support. Also considering directly venmoing our star of the episode Chieh Hsiung at @Chieh-Hsiung as a way to support her work. Breakdown of the Fundraising Goal

 

The 500-dollar goal includes the following film festivals I want to submit to. In the case that the fundraising outcome goes over the $500 mark, all proceeds will go into future production budget including equipment rentals, travel expenses, production, narrative development, screen writing, video/audio editing hours, music licensing, video hosting and, last but not least, the performer’s craft and time.

 

What is All City’s A Stage?

 

All City’s A Stage is an episodic web series produced and directed by Grant Hao-Wei Lin, featuring one performing artist each episode. All City’s A Stage is a mix of documentary, vlog, theatrical arts and poetic interpretation of the artist’s physical and metaphysical journey on their road to their dreams. Weaving the formal, the mental, and the physical into the fabric of reality, the series explores the sweet, the sour, the disturbing and the electrifying moments that we, as artists, performers and audience, can all relate to and embody at any given point of our journey. As humans are not linear beings, the story of these performing artists should not be told linearly. This series invites the audience to join in on the inner minds of these underrepresented artists from the lens of the director’s perspective.

 

Director Statement

 

Since moving to NYC in 2020, I have been extremely inspired by the many performing artists I have crossed path with. From street performers, violinists at central park, to drag queens at night clubs, there are many untold stories that deserve to be heard by the world. Being an artist myself, I want the world to see the complexity and the relatability behind each performer we see on any type of stage. With an episodic format, I want each episode of All City's A Stage to be short and easily digest-able in hope that it will eventually reach a wider and more diverse audience.

 

Director Biography - Grant Hao-Wei Lin

 

Currently pursuing an MFA in Photography at Parsons School of Design, Grant is a Taiwanese Director/Cinematographer/Photographer based in Brooklyn, NY. Having worked with Gotham Dance Theater, Dryer Marinaro Dance Studio, Crunch Fitness and several drag queens in NYC, Grant has specialized skills in capturing movement, storytelling and editing that connect otherwise disjointed movements of different time and place.

 

你好！我叫林皓偉。我是在美國紐約帕森斯設計學院學習攝影的台灣導演/電影製作人。如果你在社群軟體上關注我，你就會知道我最近與舞者/編舞家熊婕一起製作了一部短片, 在上映短短 4 天時間裡, 受到很多支持和喜愛。由於種種原因，該短片需暫時下架。原因之一是因為我和熊婕想開始向世界各地的影展投稿（各個都需要申請費用），希望能得到更多來自世界各地的支持和觀眾，並且大多數影展都要求電影沒有公開放映。因為申請影展需要許多申請費用，才因此開始這個集資活動。
