Good morning, it has been an extremely difficult time for us seeing my vivacious and beautiful sister in this condition. She is completely unrecognizable and her body is battered.

Alissa was in a serious boating accident on Sunday night (Sept. 14) at 9:00 pm. She was with her boyfriend (Daniel), daughter (Ella), and some friends. The boat hit a barge in the water. Fortunately, no one was thrown into the water. There were others who were seriously injured, including Daniel. Ella had minor injuries and is doing well physically.

Alissa sustained multiple facial fractures, thoracic and lumbar fractures (spinal), and a grade 4 liver laceration. She was flown to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami due to her injuries. She was placed in a medically induced coma and intubated. As of today, she remains in critical condition. She is going into a long (6-12 hour) facial reconstruction surgery today. She, at this time, is unrecognizable, which is so difficult to see. Her liver was initially going to be operated on but it was decided to monitor her. She did have to get an additional blood transfusion yesterday for low hemoglobin. She does respond occasionally and we’re hopeful that she understands. We will not know the extent of her brain function until she is awake.

She has a long recovery ahead of her. She is a single mom that works at a hospital in Fort Myers. Best case scenario is 3-6 months out of work but worst case could be over a year. We wanted to set up a GoFundMe to help her with her day-to-day expenses along with her medical expenses. She is a fighter and I know she will be working hard to get her life back together.
