Help Alissa & Don with Urgent Medical and Home Repair Costs

Donation protected
My dear lifelong friend Alissa (Clark) Jelley and her husband Don Jelley could really use some help…and better luck. Residents of Concord, NH, they have been experiencing a huge amount of stress and financial difficulties because of major health issues, compounded by two separate accidents to their home and property.

Don has severe mobility issues following heart surgery last year, and Alissa has been diagnosed with uterine cancer. Don and Alissa live in his childhood home, which they bought after Don’s dad died a few years ago. The house is located in a beautiful residential area, but it is at a busy intersection.

About 6 months ago, a driver mistook their driveway for a curve in the road, and crashed into their garage, destroying her beloved garden, tearing up the yard, and knocking down half of the garage. That damage had just been repaired, when 2 nights ago, in the early evening, they were shocked and terrified when they heard a huge crash and their house shook. A very intoxicated driver veered off the road and smashed into the side of their house with such force that the car embedded in their basement wall. The house was temporarily deemed unsafe, and Don and Alissa had to move out for the night. They were deeply distressed that they could only find one of their cats. Thankfully, the cat, traumatized but safe, reappeared. Many of their belongings were destroyed, including irreplaceable items like Don’s father’s intricate handmade model ships that had deeply sentimental value. Temporary repairs, including shoring up a wall to prevent collapse and installing a portable heating system, have been done, so they have moved back into part of the house. Both Alissa and Don work from home, but unfortunately, since both of their offices are located in the part of the house that was damaged, they are not allowed to enter those rooms because the floors are unstable. They are attempting to create a temporary workspace for all their work necessities. See news coverage here.

Their medical issues are straining their finances. They are in the process of installing a wheelchair ramp so Don will be able to be get into and out of the house safely, rather than depending on specialized medical transport. Alissa’s insurance denied some necessary diagnostic medical testing, so she has to pay out-of-pocket. I hope to raise enough to help ease their financial burden and allow them some relief from all the stress they have been experiencing.
