Help Alison in her fight against cancer.

Hi my name is Tim, our family has been friends with the Reeds for 19 years. They were the first family we became close friends with when we were both new to our subdivision.

Alison has worked that whole time in special education at Murdoch School. Whenever we get together she always tells us stories of the latest escapades of her students. She really loved teaching and her fellow teachers and students.

When we started a neighborhood tennis team Alison became an avid ALTA player and supplier of some amazing snacks. When our team disbanded she continued playing on other neighborhood teams and forged many new friendships there.

Last year Alison and Greg had an opportunity to buy a house on Hilton Head to fulfill their dream of a retirement close to the beach. They sold their house in the neighborhood and moved out to South Carolina. Alison planned to finish out her career at Murdoch in 2022 and was a welcome guest at our house and other friends through the end of the 2021 school year.

Shortly after the end of the school year Alison got headaches that would not go away and after a scan at the local hospital was sent to MUSC in Charleston. They operated that same day and were able to remove 80% of a tumor from Alison’s brain. Due to the location the remaining 20% is inoperable. After a couple of days the doctor asked Alison to grip his hand to see if she was strong enough to go home and after she had flipped him onto the bed he agreed that she was. Alison is a fighter!

When the results of the biopsy came back they indicated that Alison has a glioblastoma which will require a period of Chemo and Radiation Therapy. This will require frequent trips to Charleston with overnight stays. Her daughter’s are also traveling constantly between Hilton Head and Atlanta to help Alison and maintain their own careers. The costs involved are likely to be significant and this is where we all come in. I have to let you know that Alison does not know that I am setting up this page as she would likely tell me not to. However, I for one do not want to see any of the decisions being made on a financial basis but rather on the basis of whatever gives Alison the best chance to beat this tumor. I’m sure there are many of you that will share these feelings.

Alison has always been a very giving person and I am hopeful that we can show how much she is appreciated by helping to relieve the financial burden of the treatment while she concentrates on beating the cancer.

I will keep this page updated as we hear from her family on the progress of Alison’s treatment. The latest new being that the start of the Chemo and Radiation Therapy is now due to start in two weeks time.

Please respect the privacy of Alison and her family at this time. I know Alison would like to keep discussion of her condition off Facebook and other social media. By all means use this page to post messages to Alison.
