Supporting the Becker Family as Alison is Diagnosed with Cancer and Begins Treatment While Brett Recovers from a Serious Accident Abroad

In the span of just a few days, the Becker family’s world changed overnight. Alison was diagnosed with cancer and will soon begin treatment, while at the same time their son Brett was seriously injured while studying abroad in Rome. As Brett prepares to return home for multiple surgeries and Alison begins treatment, their family is leaning on the strength of their faith and community more than ever. The Becker family has always tried to live by the values of kindness, inclusion, and simply showing up for others.

Today, the Becker family finds themselves in a position where they need that same support.

Thank you for your love.

Best,

Kerrie Thompson

Alison is preparing for a (TAH) later this month, which will be followed by several months of chemotherapy as part of her cancer treatment. Because Alison works for herself, the physical demands of surgery and treatment will significantly limit her ability to maintain her normal workload or travel to support her clients during this time. While insurance will help cover portions of the medical care, many expenses and lost income during treatment will not be covered.

At the same time, their son Brett, a junior at UC Santa Barbara who was studying abroad in Rome, was struck by a car and seriously injured. Brett sustained multiple injuries, including a shattered nose, significant dental trauma, and spinal fractures. After several difficult days navigating the medical system overseas, Brett was transferred to a private hospital in Rome where he underwent surgery. Alison has been coordinating his care from the United States while Joe and his sister Jamie have been in Rome advocating for him and supporting his recovery. Brett is expected to return home to the United States on Saturday, where he will undergo additional facial, dental, and spinal evaluations and procedures.

The Becker children attended American Martyrs School and later Mira Costa High School before heading off to college. Their friendships, their faith, and the strength of their community have already been an incredible source of comfort and support as they face this challenging chapter.

Many friends have asked how they can help. This fundraiser has been created to help offset medical expenses, assist with costs not covered by insurance, and provide some breathing room for the family while Alison focuses on treatment and recovery and Brett continues his medical care at home.

Any support—whether through donations, prayers, or sharing this page—is deeply appreciated. The Becker family is incredibly grateful for the love, encouragement, and strength of the community surrounding them during this time.
