Hi my name is Amanda. My sister Alisha has been on a devastating health journey since the end of July. My family and I are trying to raise money to help offset current and future medical cost in hopes to get her back to a "new" normal life when she can finally come back home.
With Alisha's consent I can share all the details of her health journey.
She fell ill on our vacation the end of July 2024. She went into DKA with her sugar and has not been able to get her sugar regulated since.
She was throwing up for months and became extremely malnourished. No medication was controlling the vomiting. She had multiple hospital stays and ER visits in between.
Then her ulcerative colitis flared up within her large intestines and turned into the worst form - pancolitis. The doctors have tried everything they can to get her flare up under control and the colitis back into remission. The antibiotics, steroids and biological agents did not help. Her body is depleting everything that is being put into it.
Her surgery entailed removing the large intestines and an ileostomy. The doctors are hoping within the year she will be healthy enough to have another major surgery for a J Pouch.
We found out the day of her surgery due to the incompetency of her family doctors office her FMLA paperwork was never completed and returned to employer. Therefore they terminated her employment and she has also now lost her insurance. We are trying everything we can to have this reversed due to the wrong doing being on the doctors office and not her. We did our part by making sure they got the paperwork a month ago while she was in the hospital so this wouldn't happen.
We greatly appreciate any help. Even if you cannot financially help Alisha please help by sharing her story. We also appreciate all the extra prayers and good vibes in her time of need.
We know not everyone likes to donate through gofundme so I also attached my PayPal and Venmo. I setup an account for Alisha as well so donations can be made directly to Pennian Bank under Alisha S Smith Assistance Fund.
