Alisha Pollett was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1984 when she was 5 years old in 2021. Her kidney function started to decline and she was diagnosed with stage 3 kidney failure. It is now 2025 and shes in stage 5 kidney failure. There are only five stages to kidney failure. She does dialysis 4 days a week, 3 hours and 15 minutes at a time. 4,000 people die every year waiting for a kidney and more than 100,000 people are listed for a transplant each year in the United States. Her insurance covers everything for the transplant however after the transplant she will have to stay within 5 or 10 miles from the hospital for the first month. The hospital says she needs $2200 which will go towards food, gas, over-the-counter medication’s and hotel since she lives three hours away from the hospital.
