Help Katerina send Alisa to the college of her dreams

My Dear Friend or Dear friend of Katerina’s,

My name is Detelina and I am organizing this fundraiser to help Katerina send Alisa to college of her choice where she aims to continue excelling academically and rowing competitively during her undergraduate studies.

Unfortunately admission rates to selective schools declined in 2024 due to a number of factors including elimination of standardized testing requirements, affirmative action to admit more underrepresented minorities and first generation students (no college parents) so less spots were left and much more competition among excellent candidates like Alisa.

If you know Alisa like I do, you have witnessed her excelling in both academics and sports, noticed how self-driven and hardworking she is, as well as how caring she is for her community that includes school athletics and Brookline food pantry organization that caters to underprivileged community where Alisa has become an avid contributor thanks to the three languages she speaks.

Fortunately, Alisa was able to get into the school of her dreams, University of Miami Herbert Business School. Unfortunately, there was less incentive for schools to attract such candidates as Alisa due to a very high competition this year, and so no merit-based or financial aid was offered to the admitted candidates. Simultaneously, all selective colleges including U-Miami raised their tuition costs to $90K per year /$360K total (including books, meals and in-campus lodging). So while Alisa got excited the very second she heard of being admitted to U-Miami university, the reality of not being able to afford it dawned on her the very next second.

I know how hard Katerina worked to see her daughter grow from a shy girl who spoke no word of English at school when she arrived to Boston to this moment when this outstanding student got admitted to college in a highly competitive process.

I saw Katerina going despite adversity that comes with being an immigrant, she has definitely achieved a lot professionally and has been a stable provider for her daughter. However, the current college tuition cost with no aid is beyond reach even for the strongest of us. So, I am helping my dear friend and I am reaching out to you with an invitation to join me in this fundraiser where every dollar counts and could make a difference.
