Andre Birthwright; father of 9 month old Haven Birthwright, partner of nurse Alina Bonny, beloved son and friend to many. Previously healthy young man spontaneously started having symptoms of nausea and vomiting for consecutive days. He paid a visit to North Shore University Hospital the 27th of May and never returned home. What was initially thought to be diverticulitis, ended up being a severe case of pancreatitis with a plethora of complications. Within 24 hours of being admitted to the hospital he went into septic shock, multi organ failure, was intubated, sedated, and put on ECMO to help sustain his organs. He was transferred to the ICU that very day where he remained for one month. Throughout his hospital stay, he endured over a dozen surgeries and procedures, remain intubated and on ECMO due to respiratory failure, cardiovascular, kidney and liver failure, had an ostomy placed, tracheostomy placed, on TPN and lipids, and awaiting a liver transplant and amputation of his lower limb. After the first two weeks in the ICU Andre began to slowly show signs of improvement and doctors began to plan for his recovery process. Week 4, his last and final days things took an unexpected turn and he began to deteriorate at a rapid rate and his pancreas and other organs became necrotic and his body shut down to a point where he could simply not recover. A previously healthy 27 year old man unexpectedly passed June 25th, 2024 leaving behind a 9 month old baby with his amazing partner Alina. Those of you who have the privilege to talk to Alina know how much she loves her family and most importantly her beautiful baby girl whom she will now be caring for on her own. She is an amazing friend to all, and an amazing pediatric nurse adored by many.
