Help Alija with his medical bills
My name is Jasmin and my dad Alija Jašarević is battling stage IV non-small cell lung cancer. This is a much different battle than the civil war he fought in ex Yugoslavia in the early 90’s. I was only 7 at the time and until the age of 10, I saw him only a handful of times. I thought we’d have a chance to make up those lost years as we got older and still have hope we will.
I am forever grateful to both of my parents for making the tough decision of moving to the US in 1996 (both at the age of 35). Imagine leaving everyone and everything you know and moving to a foreign country where you don’t even speak the same language..imagine doing that with a 10 and a 12 year old boy.. imagine doing that with only $200 in your pocket and two suitcases between the four of you.. They did that for us in hopes that we would have a better life. I’m 35 now with two kids and get a panic attack when I try to imagine a similar scenario. Between myself and my brother, my parents now have 4 grandchildren and have never doubted their decision once.
My dad’s health insurance ran out 7 days ago. The radiation treatments he has been going to for the last 5 days alone add up to over $11,000.00. To continue his health insurance, his monthly cost jumped up from $220 to $1,400. This is out of my parents fixed budget as they are both currently not working. I feel sick to my stomach watching him worry and even worse that I’m not able to currently pitch in. With COVID causing mass layoffs in my industry, I’m happy to get 1/2 the hours I used to at my job and have two toddlers to care for at home.
If you can find it in your heart, please help my Dad by taking his mind off of the bills for a moment so he can focus on winning this battle. It would mean the world to me and my family. Thank you for your thoughts, prayers and generosity in advance.
