Hello to all our friends here at home and around the world & our many family members as Alicia's husband Matthew Della Valle.
I haven't had to look very far to find inspiration everyday from my best friend and spouse a courageous and determined woman whom I have the honor and privilege to love and be a part her life for 27 years and this year to be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary in August !
I have decided to commit to this Gofundme campaign in an effort to try and raise the funds we we need to get this amazing chair for her to give her that true sense of independence she so desperately is working towards with courage of lioness !
The Heart of the Story
Anyone who knows Alicia knows she doesn't sit still well. She has a relentless spirit and a deep love for the rugged beauty of our home here in Newfoundland. Whether it’s urban exploring through the colorful streets of St. John’s or catching the breeze on our local walking trails, Alicia is always looking for the next path to follow.
However, as many of you know, living with Cerebral Palsy in a place as "rocky" as ours comes with major barriers.
The Barrier
While Alicia’s current wheelchair gets her around the pavement, it stops the moment the sidewalk ends. For someone who dreams of:
Navigating the East Coast Trail instead of just seeing it from the trailhead.
Feeling the sand and salt air at Middle Cove or Northern Bay Sands without being stuck in the parking lot.
Sitting around a beach fire with friends and family, being part of the circle instead of watching from a distance.
Right now, these simple island joys are out of reach. It’s heartbreaking to watch someone with so much "go" in her be held back by wheels that weren't built for Newfoundland terrain.
The Solution:
An Action Trackchair
We are raising funds to get Alicia an Action Trackchair. This isn't just a wheelchair; it’s an off-road beast with tank-like tracks that can handle mud, snow, loose rock, and sand.
This chair means:
True Independence: No more needing to be lifted or pushed through difficult spots.
Access to Nature:
Finally being able to explore the hidden gems of the island she loves so much.
Participation: Being right there in the thick of it during family hikes and coastal fires.
How You Can Help:
The cost of these chairs is significant roughly $ 23,000 with the options she needs to effectively participate in these adventures, and they aren't covered by Community Health Services! We are asking our community, our friends, and our fellow Newfoundlanders and our friends around the world to help us bridge the gap.
How you can help :
Donate: Whether it's the cost of a coffee or a larger gift, every cent goes directly toward Alicia’s mobility.
Share: Please share this on Facebook and Instagram. Word of mouth is how we’ll reach our goal!
Alicia has spent her life adapting to the world. Now, we want to give her a tool that lets her conquer it. Thank you for helping Alicia get off the pavement and back into the wild!
