My best friend, Alicia, first met Richard over 10 years ago. They quickly fell in love, and shortly after, he came into my life. Ever since I met Richard, I know him as a strong person who is a fighter when needed, but the most gentle when it comes to being a father and friend. He's proved his strength and resilience, as has Alicia, when they both became sober years ago. Now, unfortunately, it's time for them to fight a different battle, other than addiction: cancer.
A little over two months ago, Richard began getting blurred vision and light-headed. He went to the ER to get a scan, and then came the horrible news: they found a tumor in his brain. After many more scary nights and tests, the results were in: lung cancer that had metastasized to his brain. Stage 4B. As overwhelming as that sounds, Richard has continued to take every turn with the utmost courage I have ever seen out of a human being, more importantly, my friend, and my best friend's husband.
He has just finished 10 rounds of radiation and starts chemotherapy on the 17th of this month.
Now for the hard part, Richard is and has always been the sole provider for their family, and with him unable to work, this leaves them asking for the almost impossible for anybody to do, but especially Richard... ask for help.
Thankfully, medical bills are being paid, but they still have a lot of things that are not in a disability budget:
Car payments, car insurance, credit card payments, groceries, household supplies, gas for medical appointments, clothes for their kids, and the list goes on. If you can, please help by sharing or donating. My family and their family would be eternally grateful. If nothing else, please at least say a prayer. Thank you, Kelsey
