Help Alice White Dragon get home!

My Mom, Alice is 98 years old. I call her White Dragon because she is ancient, strong and mystical (<see photo above). She raised me, on her own, from the time I was 4 and she’s still teaching me today. She’s been living on her own in a senior apartment complex in Lilburn GA, about 15 minutes away from the rest of our family. The evening of January 13th she fell in her apartment and broke her femur, the largest bone in the human body, just below the hip ball. She was rushed to the ER and two days later had that section of her femur replaced. She tolerated the surgery well and two days later, using her walker and with assistance from a Physical Therapist, began to walk. (See Video)

She was transferred to a Rehabilitation Center for continued care and physical therapy.

She got Physical and Occupational Therapy twice a day there with the goal of returning to her apartment as soon as she was able to walk, perform basic hygiene, and dress herself with only the assistance of a walker. Basically, functioning the way she was before the fall. These are the requirements of Gwinnett Christian Terrace (GCT) the senior apartment complex she lives in

A week before leaving rehab, Alice was diagnosed and treated for a respiratory infection. She lost a week of PT. She transitioned to an assisted living facility (Tapestry House) and the infection returned in the form of pneumonia.  This required a 10-day hospitalization ending in complete recovery from the pneumonia. She lost over 17 days of PT & OT and all the strength and muscle tone she had gained was lost during her times confined to bed and hospital.

The loss of therapy means she must remain in Tapestry House an additional 30-60 days to regain her strength and muscle tone and be cleared as self-reliant in order to return home.

She’s lost a lot of rehab time and expenses keep rising.

Out of pocket expenses for the last 10 weeks plus the next 60 days is expected to total $16,000.00 and includes housing, meals, personal care, follow-up with doctors, radiology, anesthesiology, medications and miscellaneous travel. Alice is highly motivated to return to her self-reliant life and is working hard at her PT & OT. Her most urgent need is the $3,000.00 cost of the next 30 days in assisted living (Tapestry House).

We hope you will help us cover the unexpected expenses this unfortunate accident has brought on her and our family. Help Alice White Dragon Get Home.
