for the past six months i’ve had a roommate who has been unable or unwilling to pay rent or bills. in the first two months, payments were small but consistent. i was patient because i’ve been in the position of the roommate who couldn’t pay bills on time, and i really believed him when he said he was close to being able to pay what he owed.
over time it escalated way out of my control, and now he owes me over $3500. my already shitty credit score has dropped thirty points because i’ve had to rely so much on credit to stay afloat, and without the help of my friends there were times i wouldn’t have made rent.
this week i got a notice that i now owe an additional $400 deposit to the power company because of our unpaid bill, which is over $900. (a new monthly statement has gone up, but i’m literally too scared to look at it.) the only reason it hasn’t been shut off is because it was the winter.
i’m trying to raise the money he owes me, because payments stopped completely on march 10. i have asked him to leave, which he has agreed to though he hasn’t left, so i’m going to have to pay the rent myself in april despite obviously not being able to find a replacement in that time.
i really don’t know what to do, so i’m asking for this help. please contribute if you can, or share if you’re able.
