Hello! Alice Emma Bonner is recovering from a 14-hour surgery on July 30 to remove a medulloblastoma, an extremely large, malignant brain tumor. The surgery was successful, and Mom and Dad (Anne Bonner and Jeremiah Peck) have been at her side 24/7 at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in San Francisco.
The future will bring weeks to months of in-patient rehabilitation as Alice relearns everything from swallowing to walking. She'll spend 7 weeks in San Diego undergoing advanced proton radiation therapy and chemotherapy. As Anne and Jeremiah are both hourly earners, this will take a huge toll, as will travel and other expenses. Her medical team are very optimistic about her recovery - but as they say, this is a marathon, not a sprint.
