Help Alice and Gail Amidst the Eaton Fires
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Alex Ballantyne, and I’m raising funds to support my aunt and uncle who have been severely impacted by the Eaton Fire.
For the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of living with them in Altadena while attending Pasadena City College. As a former foster youth, this support was vital to me to be able to continue pursuing my dreams of going to college while also being able to take care of them. Tragically, their home was burned down in the fire, leaving us displaced and facing significant barriers as we navigate their at-home care and health. We are currently staying with a relative while we process this loss and plan for what we will do next.
My aunt has multiple sclerosis, and my uncle is recovering from a broken hip, both of which require extra care and accessibility in their living space. As I finish up my last semester of school at Pasadena City College, I am preparing to transfer to a four-year university this fall, an accomplishment I have been working towards for over 3 years since I emancipated from the foster care system. However, I am deeply concerned about their health and want to ensure that they are taken care of with independence, dignity and comfort while I’m away.
I am asking for support to help my aunt and uncle get back on their feet over the next 18 months. The funds raised will go towards:
Remodeling the downstairs bathroom of the relatives house to make it fully accessible; it is currently insufficient and inaccessible for their health and mobility needs.
Covering costs for an in-home caretaker for the next 12 months to help them manage day-to-day activities.
Supporting any additional expenses related to getting back on their feet.
Any contribution, big or small, will help us take this vital step towards providing my aunt and uncle with a safe, supportive living environment during this difficult time. If you’re unable to donate, we ask for your support by spreading the word and sharing this fundraiser. This mutual aid and community support has meant the world to us during this devastating and traumatic experience.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity as we navigate this challenging journey together.
With gratitude,
Alex
