Help Ali Reunite with His Family
Donation protected
I'm raising funds to reunite a refugee and my friend Ali and his family.
Ali was one of the fortunate ones who was able to secure access to a C-17 out of Kabul when Afghanistan fell to the Taliban in 2021. Ali was a Captain in the Afghan Army and would have surely been a target of the Taliban had he stayed.
I met Ali through our fiends at church in November of 2021 after he, his cousin, and her two children were settled in Savannah by a national refugee settlement organization (Inspiritus)
We soon learned that Ali had a wife and 4 children in Afghanistan and he wanted to reunite with them as soon as he could. In a few months, Ali was granted asylum and then a permanent visa. Ali then began the long process of securing passports for his family that cost approximately $1500 per person because of all the corrupt government agencies in Afghanistan that needed to be paid off.
After the passports were secured, he then had to trust his brothers and sisters to help Parwin and the children to get to Pakistan (the closest U.S. Embassy).
Ali has worked hard from the moment he arrived. He's saved to buy a car while working at Chic fil a. After buying a car, Ali continued to work at Chic fil a during the day and drive Uber at night. He has never lost sight of reuniting with his family and now it is about to happen.
Ali's family has been granted a visa from the U.S. Embassy and now only needs to travel from Islamabad to Savannah.
The tickets range from $1500-$2000 depending on timing and carrier. Once here, there will be the expected cost rebuilding a household. After helping a few families settle in the winter of 21/22, we are intimately familiar with the cost of establishing a household after fleeing from your home with nothing but a backpack.
Help me! Ali has been such a dear friend to me and our family in Savannah. He has touched so many lives and given so much inspiration to our community. His story has help me and others heal from the years of war we have seen in Afghanistan.
Anything you can give will be a blessing to Ali, Parwin, and the children.
All funds will be given directly to Ali who has proven himself time and again to be wise and frugal with his resources.
All money will be used directly for travel expenses and household/family care expenses.
