"My name is Ali Dwedar I am 36 years old and hold a bachelors degree in sociology and social work. I was born and raised in Gaza, specifically in the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza strip. I am married with children and during this time I have been assisting displaced people in shelters and providing psycosocial support to children the elderly and people with disabilities.
From the beginning of the war on October 7, 2023, I woke up to the sound of loud explosions and heavy shelling that destroyed almost everything. I quickly ran to rescue my family and escaped from our home to a relative's house. Then, the heavy bombs continued to fall on the houses in our neighborhood, destroying all the landmarks of my hometown and childhood. I was then forced to flee to a place very close to the beach in the bitter cold. We then fled from central Gaza to the south of Gaza, to the city of Rafah. News arrived that more than 20 members of my family had been killed, most of them women and children. I felt deeply sad. While we were in Rafah on the border with Egypt, I was living with my family in a tent with more than 10 people due to forced displacement. Every morning, we try to obtain clean water for drinking and personal use, but with great difficulty, using groundwater wells, which are also unfit for personal use only, as their salinity is extremely high due to their proximity to the beach. Our lives have become hellish, but we must remain strong and patient despite the pain, loss, post-traumatic stress disorder, and lack of food. We now eat only once a day, and I have lost more than 15 kilograms. Before October 7, I worked in a restaurant to support my family. I spent a lot of time working continuously, sometimes up to 12 hours a day. I loved working in hotels and restaurants. I used to receive most people, even from outside Gaza, and sometimes even French, European, and even American diplomats and others from other countries around the world, providing them with excellent service. However, with the outbreak of this war and after October 7, the area where the restaurant is located, which is the Gaza coast, was occupied. Unfortunately, the restaurant was completely destroyed, leaving no trace of it due to the violent bombing and ground invasion. I suffered many severe shocks, and I am still trying to stand up and work hard to maintain good mental health. However, I have no job opportunities and no source of income. I love peace and am also advocates of peace. Stop the fire, we are dying. Please support me and achieve my goal, which is to help me obtain and buy food and restore my tent and our destroyed home where I spent my childhood.
