My daughter Aleyda Quintero is a bright and loving child who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, hypothyroidism, and autism on 08/23/24. Since her diagnosis, life has changed dramatically for our family. Aleyda struggles to communicate when her glucose is low or high, which makes managing her diabetes especially challenging. She often feels sad and stressed, and it breaks my heart to see her go through so much at such a young age.

Aleyda’s anxiety has grown because she can’t always tell us when something is wrong. She currently sleeps in our room for safety, but she dreams of having her own space and feeling more independent. A diabetic alert dog would be life-changing for her. The dog would alert us when her glucose levels are off, provide her with comfort, and help her feel less anxious. Most importantly, it would give her the confidence to sleep in her own room and enjoy more freedom.
