Help Alex's Recovery Journey
Hi, my name is Brittney and I am Alex's sister. On the evening of August 5th, we were a few days out from finishing our trip of Quebec where Alex took a spill off of his bike and sustained a severe head injury.
Alex was in Hôpital Enfant-Jésus in Quebec City from August 5th to the 24th, when he was then medically evacuated back to his home city of Edmonton, Alberta. He was in an unconscious state for about 10 days, showing some small signs of response to stimulus.
Alex is young, fit and healthy, and he did not sustain any other injuries to his body. We are hoping these elements will aid him in his recovery. With a brain injury of this severity, his rehab could be long and arduous- we really do not know.
Right now, Alex is awake and alert for many hours during the day. In this time he has been relearning speech and mobility. His personality seems to be really similar to old Alex from what we can tell. His memory is still piecing certain situations back together, but largely he does remember most things and it seems like other parts might be taking longer to spark.
If anyone is looking to support Alex during this time, we created this GoFundMe for these purposes.
The funds are specifically going to:
- Alex and his rehabilitation costs that might not be covered by insurance
- Building a fund for Alex for his use when he recovers as he will likely be faced with loss of income for an unknown period of time during his rehabilitation
Thank you for any support you can offer at this time. We thank everyone who has already reached out with their love and support. Money is not the only show of love, and anything is appreciated. Please let us know if you are interested in visiting Alex! Alex is tough and can fight this.
